Download & Install
Getting the client, extracting it in the right place, and the two things that go wrong if you do not.
Download & Install
The client comes as a zip archive. There is no installer and no admin rights needed. Download it, extract it, play.
1. Download#
One thing before you extract it: do not put the client in
C:\Program Files. Windows restricts write access to that folder, so the patcher cannot update the client and your settings cannot be saved. Any ordinary folder works, your Desktop or a games folder for example.
| Source | Link |
|---|---|
| Direct | secondwind_client_2026.zip, around 5.3 GB |
| Mega | secondwind_client_2026.zip, around 5.3 GB |
| Google Drive | secondwind_client_2026.zip, around 5.3 GB |
All three carry the same file. Use whichever one is faster for you.
2. Extract it somewhere sensible#
Anywhere on your drive works. Desktop, Documents, a games folder, a second drive.
Do not put it in C:\Program Files. Windows restricts write access to that folder, which means the patcher cannot update the client and your settings cannot be saved. Everything appears to work until it does not. Any ordinary folder avoids the problem.
3. First run#
Run Setup.exe or opensetup.exe once. Both do the same job, so use whichever you like. Pick your resolution and confirm. You only need to do this again if you change monitor or change your mind.
Then run secondwind_patcher.exe. It fetches the latest updates and starts the game.
Log in with your account and pick the connection entry that suits your region. Connecting & Regions explains which one.
From here on, always start the game through secondwind_patcher.exe. Launching the executable directly skips the update check, and eventually you find yourself unable to connect with no idea why.
Staying up to date#
The patcher checks for updates every time you start it. Fixes, new content and item data arrive as small patches, so you never re-download the full client.
When a patch note says something reached you through the patcher, running it once is all that is required.
System notes#
Windows, 64 bit recommended. The client is known to run on Linux under Wine and Proton, but that is community territory rather than something we test.
Antivirus software sometimes flags Ragnarok clients and patchers as unknown software, which to a scanner they are. If your download gets quarantined, restore it and add an exception for the SecondWind RO folder.
Disk space. Leave a few gigabytes free beyond the client itself. Patches accumulate.
If something goes wrong#
Download will not start, client crashes, patcher throws an error, see Troubleshooting.
Still stuck, ask in Discord or use the support form.
